The Tent Cities of Hajj

Mahmoud Bodo Rasch is a German architect and researcher. He is internationally known for the construction of large retractable umbrellas. In 1974, Rasch was invited to lead Frei Otto’s team in an international competition for the accommodation of pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. After this experience, the architect decided to study the “The Tent Cities of Hajj”. The Thesis was published in 1980, at the Institut für Leichte Flächentragwerke (ILEK), at the University of Stuttgart. This lecture will present his research from a contemporary perspective.
