Let‘s Talk!November 4 - 7, 2021

We need to talk about homelessness

What actually happens when you don't have a home? The extent of homelessness has rarely been as visible as it was during the Corona pandemic - when the streets were empty, it was the homeless who were left behind. The current global situation brings into focus an issue that has been pressing for decades. All over the world - but especially in cities - the number of people experiencing homelessness is rising, and we need to talk about it.

But how does one even approach such a topic? As part of our event series Let's talk! We need to talk about homelessness, we look at the intersection of homelessness and the design of our urban space, the way we talk about homelessness, possible strategies for the future - socially, politically and economically, as well as architecturally - and how Munich, as a city that has been struggling with a housing shortage for years, can address the issue. In doing so, we seek answers to the questions: What responsibility does the city bear and what strategies is it pursuing to generate solutions? What role can architecture play as a profession? How can the issue be made more visible in our society?

The multi-format program examines the topic from different perspectives and, as a discussion platform, is intended to initiate an informed dialogue that invites Munich residents to form an opinion and become active. Let's talk about homelessness, within the exhibition space and beyond!

The program in Pavilion 333 was developed by architecture students as part of the semester program at the Chair of Architectural History and Curatorial Practice at the Technical University of Munich and accompanies the exhibition Who's Next? Homelessness, Architecture and Cities at the Architekturmuseum der TUM.

The curatorial team consisting of the students Ann-Kathrin Gügel, Lisa Luksch, Ella Neumaier, Theresa Thanner, Leonie van Kempen and Ilyas Kerem Yilmaz was supervised by Prof. Andres Lepik and Dr. Daniel Talesnik.

Participation is limited due to Corona - therefore please register for the events. You can find the detailed program here.
